Blow Your Own Trumpet: Here's Why You Should!
I was recently told by a business coach, “You’re not blowing your own trumpet!”
“Wait, what do you mean?” I asked, surprised.
They explained:
“You have an incredible business. You help people with severe challenges overcome them, and in the process, you enable them to thrive. You tackle tough cases of stress, anxiety, and depression that many others won’t even touch. You don’t just focus on mental health—you also address nutrition and overall health, offering a holistic approach.
Your team boasts decades of experience, and you consistently win awards year after year. You’re constantly improving your skills, learning new techniques, and refining your approach. Your passion for helping people is clear.
Over the past 10 years, you’ve helped thousands, with countless positive reviews and testimonials to back it up. And in doing so, you save people both time and money on therapy.”
Then they said, “You do amazing, powerful work. You help people. But you’re not blowing your own trumpet. It’s time to start doing that!”
I was blown away. After a short break, I started thinking: How can we use this insight?
Why This Matters: Your Inner Strengths Can Help You Overcome Anything
In our work with clients, we focus not just on their challenges but on the skills, strengths, and abilities they already have. The answers to many problems often lie within the person, and our role is to help them tap into that power.
By reminding clients of their unique abilities and past successes, we can often unlock solutions that lead to lasting results. This isn’t just about therapy; it’s about empowering people to recognise their own strengths.
How You Can Start Blowing Your Own Trumpet
Here’s a simple exercise to help you get started:
Find a quiet, comfortable place to sit with a notepad for 10 minutes. You’re worth it.
List the problems and challenges you’ve worked through in the past. Write down as many as you can.
Look for the strengths, skills, and abilities you used to overcome each challenge. Write those down, too.
Ask yourself: How can I apply these strengths and skills to other areas of my life to improve things?
Clients often get stuck at first, but once they relax into the process, the ideas start to flow. To make it a habit, try doing this at the end of each day. Over time, you’ll be amazed at how your confidence, awareness, and motivation grow. It’s a simple yet powerful tool for increasing positivity and results.
Blowing Your Own Trumpet = Greater Confidence & Better Outcomes
By focusing on your strengths and achievements, you’ll find that you naturally boost your confidence and mindset. Most people tend to focus on what they didn’t do right or what could’ve been better. But shifting your focus to your wins and abilities can have an incredibly positive effect—whether it’s in your career, relationships, or overall well-being.
