How Effective Is Hypnotherapy For Anxiety Disorders

How Effective Is Hypnotherapy For Anxiety Disorders

November 30, 20243 min read

Over the years, we have successfully helped thousands of anxiety clients with anxiety issues with most eliminating the issue for good.
A big question during the Anxiety Assessment Call is, "How effective is hypnotherapy for anxiety, and does it last?"

There have been several studies comparing hypnotherapy for anxiety to other therapies such as CBT, Counselling, Medication & Talking Therapies.

From our experience, over 90% of the people who reach out to us for help with anxiety have previously tried several therapies, including CBT, counselling, medication or talking therapies, to experience anxiety issues still.

Some claim that these therapies helped for a short period with others stating it did not help at all.
One of the biggest complaints is that these therapies may be beneficial to begin with and overtime the improvements decrease.
We have theories on why this is & will explore these later in this article.

How Effective Is Hypnosis

The Alfred A Barrios Study.

Alfred A. Barrios, Ph.D., presented a review in the journal "Psychotherapy: Theory, Research and Practice" and in American Health magazine, where he provided the following recovery rates for different therapies: Please be aware this study covered several issues, not just anxiety.

Hypnotherapy: 93% success rate after an average of 6 sessions. Average cost $1,500.

Psychoanalysis: 38% success rate after an average of 600 sessions. Average cost $120,000

Behavior Therapy: 72% success rate after 22 sessions. Average cost $4,950

This article, "Hypnotherapy: A Reappraisal," is available on his website in the articles section. These figures suggest that hypnotherapy may be a highly effective and efficient treatment option compared to traditional therapies, according to Barrios' review.

Why Is Hypnotherapy So Effective For Anxiety.

Our view is that anxiety is an unconscious pattern that has been created in the brain. It runs automatically & often is not detected by the indiviudual although they are aware of the symptoms.

Traditional therapies such as CBT, counselling, psychotherapy or talking therapies try to resolve anxiety on a concious level ignoring the unconscious level alone.

Hypnotherapy is one of the few therapies that looks to retrain the brain on an unconscious level & why we feel it is more successful.

Modern Therapy Approaches For Anxiety.

Some of the more promising studies indicate that when hypnotherapy is used in conjunction with other therapies, much greater success is achieved in a shorter time that also lasts into the future.

Our Approach For Anxiety Treatment That Lasts.

Modern neuroscience suggests that we can rewire how our brains work using an approach known as Self Directed Neural Plasticity.

This involves using modern Clinical Hypnotherapy with other therapies such as Neuro Linguistic Programming, Emotional Freedom Techniques, Mindfulness & more.

The aim is to interrupt the old anxiety pattern & then create a new pattern of feeling calm & relaxed.
With regular practice by the client, we see most resolving their unwanted anxiety issues in 6 weeks or less.

Does This New Approach Work For Everyone?

Many people believe that hypnotherapy is an instant fix without any work on behalf of the client.
This may be true for some issues although in our experience the clients that take part in the process see much high rates of success.

For complex issues such as anxiety disorders it is important to work on the anxiety patterns on both a unconscious & conscious level and a daily routine of short exercises normally resolves the issues in 4 to 6 weeks.

This usually results in clients feeling relaxed, happy, confident & anxiety free allowing them to move on with their lives.
